Like many of us, I’d promised myself some downtime for a while now. But this wasn’t quite how I imagined it.

It’s safe to say – I was initially a little panicked as I thought ‘shut up shop’ would be misinterpreted as ‘halt business’.

But, with my emails busier than ever, and a heap of design work to get through, it is clear that staying at home isn’t ‘downtime’ – it’s ‘do it differently time’. And I’m not alone. Everyone’s at home. We’re doing a bit of DIY, a bit of baking, a bit of spring cleaning. We’re getting stuff done that we’ve been meaning to get around to for ages.

A little time at home has forced many of us to look around, and we’re realising we’ve been ‘making do’ for far too long. What’s more, many of us now have more time on our hands to start thinking about making some changes.

We’ve realised our kitchens could be so much more. We’re imagining dinners and socialising with friends once this chaos is over, and we’re wondering how best to utilise our space.

We’ve got rid of our toddler’s unused toys and outgrown clothes (it’s about time, she’s 10 now). We know now we need fitted furniture in our main bedroom, we’ve just got to work out what that looks like.

We’re sitting at our desk in our spare room, wishing we had taken the time to convert it into an office, now we are working from home for the foreseeable.

Most of all, we have fallen back in love with quality time together, and we now have the time to improve the space we find ourselves in.
