A few weeks ago, I was at home with the family, re-runs of DIY SOS on the TV in the background, when I noticed that the episode playing was one that is really close to our hearts here at Glotech.

A few weeks ago, I was at home with the family, re-runs of DIY SOS on the TV in the background, when I noticed that the episode playing was one that is really close to our hearts here at Glotech.

See, back in 2018, we got the opportunity to help a local hero, Kris Aves.

The 22nd March 2017 started out as a joyous day for the 35-year-old police officer, but everything changed when he was hit by the van used in the Westminster Bridge attack.

The off-duty police officer was picking up an award that day and was walking across the bridge to celebrate with his colleagues.

As he crossed the bridge, he was hit by the van, leaving him with two broken legs, a lacerated elbow, damaged left shoulder, numerous head injuries, sternum and a damaged spinal cord.

As Kris began his physical recovery, it soon became apparent that he wasn’t going to be able to go home. He spent seven months in hospital, unable to live at home with his wife and young children because he couldn’t access most of the rooms in his wheelchair.

BBC’s DIY SOS got in touch with Glotech to see if we could help them alter and renovate Kris’ home to meet his new requirements.

It goes without saying, we didn’t have to think twice to say yes when given the opportunity to help.

Glotech provided and installed a brand-new kitchen and utility room, and fitted everything out with industry-leading domestic appliances including an AEG oven, Indesit dishwasher and CDA fridge.

We were pleased to be able to contribute to this vitally needed home renovation project and would like to acknowledge that it would not have been possible without the endless contributions of time and resource made by companies and individuals.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the BBC once again for giving us the opportunity to help one of our residents, and we hope the project has allowed Kris to return to his family home.
