Its all down to the doors

When it comes to buying and choosing your new kitchen, the options are endless.

When it comes to buying and choosing your new kitchen, the options are endless.

These options vary in cost, and one thing I’ve found after years in the kitchen industry is that often customers are unsure of why these costs vary.

Majority of the time it’s all down to the doors.

Many kitchens are made with laminate doors because they’re cost-effective. Laminate is a popular option because it is durable, well priced and comes in a wide choice of colours and finishes.

A similar door type that is often confused with laminate is vinyl. These are doors which have a covering of PVC that’s heat shrunk over the door. These doors are budget-friendly but not cost-effective. The nature of how they are made means that when exposed to heat from your oven, kettle or slow-cooker they begin to peel or lose shape. Personally, I dislike vinyl and at Glotech we avoid it at all costs.

We create kitchens that last, and a vinyl kitchen never will.

If your looking for a kitchen that will last a lifetime, then a real timber door is a great option, more expensive than laminate, but they add a real wow factor to any kitchen. Being real timber means hard-wearing, and when they do start to age many years down the line, it’s extremely easy to make them look brand new again. Another great selling factor for these doors is that you can get them repainted in any colour or finish.

Another hugely popular choice is the lacquered door, especially in our Italian range. The Italians really know their stuff when it comes to style, and these ranges are no exception. They offer some unique finishes such as metallic gloss that really set their kitchens out from the rest. There are so many more options like ceramic and glass doors – the list goes on. Why not pop into our showroom and see them for yourself? One of our team would be more than happy to talk you through the details!
